How to do the Bruegger’s Exercise

This exercise helps to strengthen the back and stretch out the shoulders and chest.


Step 1.

Step one is to retract (or bring together) your shoulder blades. The best way to accomplish this is with relaxed shoulders, take your thumbs and point them away from your body. This will naturally retract your scapula.

Step 2.

During this exercise, make sure that your shoulders are staying relaxed, especially your upper trapezius (the muscle on top of your shoulder).

Step 3.

Lastly, once holding this position, retract your neck. To accomplish this, take your chin and push it straight back almost as if to give yourself a “double chin.”

Step 4.

We recommend to start with holding this exercise for 30 seconds, multiple times during the day and work up from there.
